Care & Maintenance
Resin art care & heat resistance
Every piece we pour is cured epoxy resin — durable, water resistant and made to last years with almost no effort. A few small habits keep the gloss clear and the colours true. Here is exactly how we look after our own pieces in the studio.
Are resin coasters heat resistant?
Cured epoxy resin coasters are heat resistant up to roughly 50–60°C, not heat proof. They comfortably handle a mug of tea or coffee, a cold glass or a water bottle. Placing a straight-from-the-stove pan, a boiling kettle or a piping hot serving bowl on them can soften the surface and leave a permanent ring or cloudy mark.
Can resin coasters withstand heat from a hot cup?
Yes. A normal cup of coffee or chai sits around 60–70°C at the base but cools fast against the ceramic, so the resin surface never reaches its softening point. For extra safety with very hot drinks, let the cup rest for 30 seconds before setting it down, or use one of our thicker 4mm+ pours.
How do I clean resin art?
Wipe with a soft, damp microfibre cloth and mild soap, then dry immediately. Never use acetone, alcohol, bleach, scouring pads or dishwasher cycles — they dull the gloss and can etch the surface. For dried flower or photo inclusions, keep water away from any exposed edges.
How do I stop resin from yellowing?
Yellowing comes almost entirely from UV exposure. Keep pieces out of direct sunlight and away from hot windowsills, store them flat rather than stacked, and dust regularly. Every shereenzart piece is poured with UV-stabilised resin, which slows ambient yellowing dramatically but cannot beat all-day direct sun.
Is resin food safe?
Our trays and coasters use a food-contact-safe cured finish, so serving dry snacks or placing dishes on them is fine. Cured resin is not intended for cutting on, for prolonged contact with oily or acidic food, or for microwave and oven use.
How do I care for resin wall clocks and frames?
Dust with a dry cloth only. Hang away from direct sunlight, damp bathroom walls or heat sources like a stove or heater. If the piece has a glossy face, an occasional buff with a clean microfibre cloth restores the shine.
Quick care checklist
- Use a trivet or mat for anything straight off the stove.
- Wipe with a damp soft cloth; skip harsh solvents and the dishwasher.
- Store flat and out of direct sunlight.
- Buff occasionally with dry microfibre to bring back the shine.
- Small surface scratches can be polished out with car-grade plastic polish.
